With all of the conflicting nutrition information that exists today it can be overwhelming trying to decipher what habits contribute to truly healthy eating. Depending on your life outlook, there are different definitions of health and hence, differing viewpoints on what constitutes healthy eating.
There are a lot of factors that go into this and they can often be confusing. Explaining this complex information in an understandable manner and offering nutritional guidance is what Johanna is trained to do. Felda are the only fitness club in Dundalk to employ a nutritional consultant for its members. If you have a specific goal in mind, but do not know how to reach it from a nutritional perspective, you should consider setting up an appointment. Here are a few examples of how consulting with a Nutritionist can assist you on the wellness journey that you have chosen.
Exercise and eating go hand in hand when trying to shed excess fat. If you are eating too many calories you will normally need to reduce them in order to facilitate weight loss. However, at the same time, because of the exercise portion of your program, it needs the right amount of fuel to ensure you have the energy stores to train, and continue an active life.
Depending on your background and health history, fat loss can be a simple or complicated process. A Nutritionist has the knowledge necessary to design a program that can get you heading in the right direction. Many times, eating patterns that prohibit our fat loss efforts can be determined by both internal and external cues. Often, we are not able to identify these cues until we take a closer look at the situation.
In order to lose fat in a healthy manner you must balance the exercise and eating segments of your plan. If you do have to reduce calories, getting the additional nutrients your body needs to stay healthy can be difficult. This is where a consultation with Johanna can be invaluable.
Athletic and exercise performance are greatly influenced by nutrition whether at the professional or amateur level. The foods we eat fuel our body with the energy and nutrients we need to perform optimally; conversely, unhealthy eating will put limits on what the body is capable of both physically and mentally.
If you participate in sports, Johanna can guide your eating towards a plan that meets your specific needs. Different sports utilize the bodys energy stores in different ways. Some activities require endurance over long periods, while some involve short spurts of energy followed by a brief rest. Just as the type of physical training for each sport differs, the foods you eat and when you eat them can be manipulated to provide the energy you need, at the right time.
Maybe youre training for a weekend charity fundraiser such as your first 5K or a bike ride. While an event of shorter duration may not take as much time and effort to prepare for, your nutritional needs are still important. In training for this event its likely that you have stepped up your training, and even if it isnt for a more elite or long distance event your nutritional needs will also change. You should know what type of healthy carbohydrates will give you the best source of energy. Also, as the event approaches you will also need to know what to eat and when to eat it so that you can perform to the best of your abilities. Johanna can answer all of these questions and after seeking her advice, you will feel much more prepared for your first race or event experience.
It is not a requirement that you have a specific goal in mind or that you are training for an event in order to benefit from the knowledge and skills of a Nutritionist. Maybe you want to focus on general health, ensuring that you are getting a proper nutrient balance in the food choices you make on a day to day basis. With a popular media constantly communicating conflicting nutrition information towards, it is understandable that you will have questions that require accurate answers. Because food is such a vital component of our health, it makes sense to ask a professional.
Perhaps your doctor has advised that your body needs more of a specific nutrient like calcium or vitamin E, leaving you to figure out how to increase those nutrients through diet. Johanna will be able to help you identify specific food sources containing the nutrients you require. In the same visit you will also likely better understand how the foods you eat might influence one another, particularly relating to the absorption of vitamins and minerals and the bodys ability to utilize them at certain times.
A food might start out healthy, but certain cooking methods can leave it less than desirable when it comes to nutritional benefit. Maybe you are at a loss for how to prepare foods in a healthy way. Johanna will be able to offer tips on cooking methods. She might also be able to suggest foods that you have never tried before to increase variety in your diet which can keep healthy eating exciting and full of flavour.
Like most of us, you most likely lead a very busy life. With children needing a healthy meal and seemingly not enough hours in a day, Johanna can provide quick, convenient meal ideas that will be beneficial to both your schedule and the health of your family. You might also need some ideas for convenient and nutrient-rich snacks and, even on those nights where there is no time to cook, you can get suggestions for the best places and the healthiest foods to choose when you are dining out.
These are just a few of the reasons that you might want to consider making an appointment with a qualified Nutritionist. For the health of you and your family, it might be a wise choice.
Johanna works in Felda on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3pm to 9pm in a private consultation room in our Felda day spa. Her rates are €50 for your first hour consultation and €20 per consultation thereafter.
